Pelourinho a small square, now \"sunk\" between the mouths of the small rivers João Gomes and Santa Luzia, was once the center of the city. It was here that the first Customs of Funchal and the first commercial factories settled. The square was formed from the main street, Rua Direita and Rua da Cadeia Velha that was named due to the tradition regarding these kind of streets in the Portuguese medieval cities.

In 1486, D. Manuel Duke sent a pillory to the island, which was placed in the square that was named to indicate the location of the pillory. The Rua Direita still starts on this square, but \"fades away\" just a few meters ahead, near the old jail. In the sixteenth century it crossed the Ribeira de Santa Luzia, ending in the today called Street of the Rua dos Ferreiros. The nowadays Rua Direita still maintains a certain timeless character, with some buildings of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.

This renovated Madeiran style building dated from the XVII century was the jailhouse in the location.

The fortress of Saint Tiago built in the XVII century, the Electricity Museum, the “Lavradores” Farmer market, the Cable Car, various bus stops and a public car parking is also available just a 2 minute walk from the house.

The Sé Cathedral is less than 200m and the Modern Art Museum 600m away.

The La Vie shopping centre, a 15-minute walk and features several shops and an extensive food court. The botanical garden, 3 km from the, property, feature vast green areas and unique plant species. Machico 24-minute drive and features a beach where guests can enjoy swimming and lounging in the sun. Palheiro Golf features an 18-hole green course and Santo da Serra Golf Club features a 27-hole green course is a 15-minutes or 25 minutes’ drive away.
